Woodstock-Inspired Commercial Collective

Saturday, May 15th, 2010

Studio Mercury employed a blend of vintage and contemporary design elements to deliberately differentiate Triptent’s mark from that of thousands of other commercial production companies. Triptent uses the website to communicate who they are as a unique group of creators, with emphasis on the philosophy than product, process more than final result.

Triptent is an open-ended commercial collective based in New York City. Its name draws from tents at Woodstock, set up to foster creative exchange during acid trips. The company approached Studio Mercury for Branding and Website Development in the Spring of 2010, shortly after the conception of its playful name. Having collaborated on numerous occasions in the past, Studio Mercury and the creators of Triptent shared design sensibilities and productivity pacing that assured a timely delivery of a new company identity. The company website was launched in June 2010.

Studio Mercury employed a blend of vintage and contemporary design elements to deliberately differentiate Triptent’s mark from that of thousands of other commercial production companies. The website uses a costume-built content management system for the client’s ease of use – while every aspect of the flash site remains modular. With sections such as WHO, WHY, OUR PURPOSE laid out before CLIENT and WORK,

More information on the Triptent project can be found at smny.us, or from its lead SMNY liason, SerenaKuo@smny.us.

COLAB, a new design warehouse at Syracuse University, hired the talents at Studio Mercury to create a documentary for their recent brain drain event. Targeting the potential of social media, the event involved industry professionals and students across disciplines to re-consider how education, business and the society at large could function more effectively in the near future.

The bulk of the short documentary addresses the collaboration, diversity, and ideas that came out of the event. However, to truly connect the short to the spirit of social networking, Studio Mercury also extracted more in-depth interview segments with the events various participants. Utilizing the annotative function of YouTube, the main short documentary is networked to these interviews. This structure provides the event with multiple layers of backstory.

The main teaser documentary of Social Media Futures can be experienced here.
