Callus: Syracuse University VPA Warehouse Light Wall Installation
Educational development within design professions often requires students to create much of their work by hand. In the same way a callus is formed, so is our professional development perfected by repetitive action. The installation in the main lobby of the “The Warehouse” became an expression of the University’s design departments to all its visitors.
Photographic scenarios were composed of artists and makers performing actions used in their practice. Movements were filmed and algorithmically translated into line drawings highlighting the relationship of the maker’s hands and tool used in moments of time. The drawings were applied on top of the images as an expression of the learning development within a design practice.
